Yalow Honors Scholar (cohort 2021)

Major: Biological Sciences
Minor: Italian

i am currently a scholar pre-med student, and a Scholar Peer Leader for Hunter’s Yalow Honors Scholars Program, where I mentor/tutor students and host professional events for scholars. Since the start of my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity of participating in various extracurricular activities that enhanced my clinical and research skills, essential for a future career as a physician. Currently, I am working as an ophthalmic tech at Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants. I assist ophthalmologists in providing eye care in pediatric patients, performing tasks like taking patient histories, and administering eye exams. Since June 2022, I volunteered in the emergency departments at Mount Sinai Hospital as part of the CARE program, and Policlinico di Milano Ospedale Maggiore in Milan, Italy. Also, starting June 2022, have been part of the Dr. Clemente lab, focusing on the study of microbiome and the underlying mechanisms linked to imbalances of bacteria in the gut, working on several projects. My most recent project focused on comparing DNA depletion methods on low-biomass microbiome samples. Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I intend on attending medical school, and ultimately become a pediatric oncologist.
